One of our top priorities is to advance discovery through patient-focused research, and you can help make it happen.
The Auckland Health Foundation understands the importance of clinician and patient driven research, which can lead to ground-breaking advancements in healthcare, and ultimately save lives.
We are committed to funding innovative research projects, which have potential to transform healthcare and wellness and the way it is delivered within Auckland DHB. As New Zealand’s largest medical training facility and largest clinical research facility, Auckland DHB’s goal is to fast-track research findings from ‘bench to bedside’ and onward to benefit families and communities.
Your donations to the Research and Discovery Fund will help answer clinically important questions, which have the potential to improve healthcare on a global scale. You can help Auckland DHB pioneer world-first research, like it has with the PREP2 algorithm.
Auckland DHB is the first health organisation in the world to use the PREP2 algorithm to predict hand and arm outcomes for stroke patients. There was previously no way of accurately knowing what level of recovery would be possible, but thanks to this world-leading research, clinical and neurophysiological assessments can determine how well a patient will recover the use of their hand and arm.
The PREP2 algorithm is the result of several years’ research involving Auckland DHB stroke patients, DHB clinicians and University of Auckland scientists, and it is now used successfully in day-to-day practice at Auckland City Hospital.
Clinicians use PREP2 predictions to tailor the patient’s rehabilitation plan to best meet their needs, ensure their recovery potential is realised and help them return home sooner. Forever grateful, 30-year-old Rupert Myhre is one patient who has benefited from the PREP2 algorithm.
You can help to ensure more people, like Rupert, benefit from world-leading research and discovery.
